The Guide

The Guide of the Peace, Love, Mercy, Freedom, Justice, and Beauty

The Guide who shows you the Way is your brother. Take his hand and he will lead through from station to station, from the dark to the light, from the gross to the subtle. The secret is in the Love. You are the Love, not another. When you find this Love, what more could you want?

-Sidi al-Jamal

Who Is the Guide?

The "Guide" is the spiritual master in charge of the Order. Often a presiding Guide will choose a successor from among his/her students, authorizing the next Guide in the line. Our current Guide is the venerable Shaykh Sidi Muhammad Sa'id al-Jamal ar-Rifa'i as-Shadhuli of the Mount of Olives, Jerusalem. "Sidi" as he is known, has been teaching, carrying students, and working for peace for over forty years. He grew up in a Sufi community under the watchful eye of his grandfather, a noted shaykh and descendant of Ahmad ar-Rifa'i. Sidi memorized the Qur'an at an early age. He completed his final forty day-and-night halwa and was certified as having completed the path in his early twenties.

Sidi was known as a beautiful singer of Qur'an throughout the Middle East. He served as Deputy Grand Mufti of the Islamic Courts in Palestine, and is an Imam at Masjid al-Aqsa where he gives the Friday sermon. He has dedicated his life to serving the poor, restoring people's rights, and ending religious conflict and war. He has thousands of students worlwide, particularly in Africa, Palestine, the UK, the U.S., Syria and Jordan. He has written over twenty books including some of his own tafsir, and is a tireless leader of the Shadiliyya school.
